Global Health

My laboratory focuses on pathogen detection in clinical and environmental samples, and epidemiology of infectious diseases. Relevant areas including tuberculosis (TB) and related diseases, food- and water-borne pathogens, and healthcare-associated infections. These activities share a strong emphasis on translation and global health impact. Recent accomplishments include the development of a novel, oral swab-based TB case finding approach, new molecular viability testing methods, and new semi-synthetic affinity reagents for molecular diagnostic testing. These efforts are being carried out in collaboration with researchers in the U.S., South Africa, Kenya, and Bangladesh.
