MolES among the top three public buildings in DJC poll
The results are in and the MolES Building landed among the top three public buildings in Washington completed in 2012 according to the popular poll conducted by Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce. Completed in late 2012, the building designed by ZGF Architects is LEED gold certified and provides 90,000 square feet of low-vibration lab and instrumentation space at the center of the UW Seattle campus. Celebrated for its sustainable design as well as its airy collaborative workspaces, the MolES Building is home to interdisciplinary faculty from 7 different departments across the schools of engineering, arts and sciences, and medicine. As one poll respondent observed,”The building is designed to nurture ideas – groundbreaking, earth-shattering ideas – about how molecules interact. The green roof and the air circulation are great, but the building is about idea-circulation and how we can shatter the silos between disciplines.”
The 2012 Building of the Year title goes to the Paul G. Allen Center for Global Animal Health on the Washington State University Pullman campus. Second place went to the Husky Union Building (HUB), the recently renovated student center also located on the UW Seattle campus.
