Officers (2013 – 2014)

Kui Wang, President

Kui is a graduate student in the Materials Science and Engineering department and works mainly on nanomaterials. He likes watching movies, listening to music and playing sports in his spare time.

Shilpa Naidu Beesabathuni, Public Relations Officer

Shilpa is a PhD student in the Soft Matter and Microfluidics Lab (Mechanical Engineering) at the University of Washington and President Emeritus of NaMESA. Her current research in Dr. Amy Shen’s lab is focused on using droplet microfluidics to fabricate and characterize polymer microspheres. The applications for these polymer particles are quite diverse ranging from surface coating for consumer goods, biomedical diagnostics, solar cells to pharmaceuticals. Shilpa earned a Bachelor of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology in 2008 and a Master of Science from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2010. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and Nanotechnology and will graduate in 2014. Outside of school, she enjoys photography, traveling, sports and reading.

Yunqi Yan, Treasurer

Yunqi is a graduate student in David Ginger’s research group in the Department of Chemistry at UW. She studies syntheticphotoswitch-modified DNA to speed up DNA hybridization analysis (e.g. genetic testing and DNA microarray sequencing).Yunqi received a B.S. in Chemistry from Beijing Normal University (China) at 2010, where she did her undergraduate research in biochemistry and computational chemistry with Prof. Ouyang Jin and Prof. Decai Fang. Yunqi likes public outreach and educational events; She is currently a science communication fellow at Pacific Science Center. In her leisure time, she enjoys hiking and skiing.
